FK Manager
FK Manager
A fast, old-school football management sim you can play directly in your browser — now with a 2D match view.
No account. No install. No server. Your save stays local.
FK Manager is an early prototype of a football / soccer management game set in a fictional football world. You take charge of a club, make squad and tactical decisions, manage training, develop players, run the club finances, and watch matches play out on a 2D pitch alongside a minute-by-minute commentary feed.
The current version is not trying to be a full Football Manager-style career sim yet. v0.4 is a playable foundation focused on the match engine and its new 2D view, tactics, training, player development, youth academies, club finances, and the day-to-day rhythm of managing a club over time.
The long-term goal is to grow FK Manager into a deeper standalone football management game, with a Steam release planned later in development.
Play the current build
- Current version: v0.4
- Platform: Browser
- Recommended: Desktop / laptop
- Save system: Local browser save
- World: Fictional clubs and players
- Price: Free prototype / feedback build
You can start playing immediately in your browser. No registration or download is required.
Careers started in v0.3 are migrated automatically. As always, your save lives only in your browser — clearing site data or using a private window will remove it.
What is new in v0.4
The two headline additions are the 2D match view and a full club finance system.
- Watch matches on a 2D pitch — possession, passes, shots, set pieces, goals, tactical shape and player movement, with the text broadcast still running alongside it
- Replay any match you watched through to the final whistle, or switch to a shorter highlights cut
- Run a real club economy — cash, operating result, annual wages, runway, monthly income and expenses, and a full transaction ledger
- Choose a season sponsor from three offers at the start of every season
- Take an emergency loan if your club drops below one month of cash runway
- Earn competition prize money, paid once when the final standings are known
- Move through the season day by day with a rolling seven-day calendar
- Read a permanent club Inbox — sponsors, youth promotions, injuries, suspensions, retirements and squad-health warnings
- Compare clubs in national, continental and world prestige rankings
- See persistent squad numbers across squad, profiles, tactics and the pitch
What you can do now
In the current version, you can:
- Manage a fictional football club
- Pick your starting lineup and give every player a shirt number
- Build a library of full tactics in the Tactics Hub — formations, roles, movement plans, and team settings
- Create custom formations and let in-match automation rules react while you watch
- Watch matches on a 2D pitch with minute-by-minute commentary
- Rewatch a match as a full replay or as a highlights cut
- Review match stats and key events
- Plan team training
- Develop players over time, with talent ratings shaping how fast they grow
- Sign youth prospects from your club U16 and U18 academy squads
- Run your club finances — wages, sponsors, prize money and emergency loans
- Manage fatigue, injuries, cards and form
- Watch veterans retire and squads age across seasons
- Advance the calendar day by day, or simulate ahead to a chosen date
- Follow club prestige in national, continental and world rankings
- Continue your career using local browser saves
FK Manager is designed for players who enjoy football management, spreadsheets, player development, long-term squad building, and simulation.
The match engine
Matches are simulated through player attributes, tactical choices, zones, duels and in-game events. In v0.4 that simulation is also drawn on a 2D pitch — the visuals are generated from the real match events rather than a second simulation running alongside them.
The current match engine includes:
- Attribute-based player actions
- A 2D top-down pitch showing possession, movement, shots and set pieces
- Minute-by-minute text commentary
- Full-time replays and a highlights cut
- Team and player match stats
- Goals, assists and chances
- Fouls, yellow cards and red cards
- Injuries
- Set pieces
- Tactical influence on match flow — formation, movement plans, and team settings feed the simulation, including a tactical matchup between both plans
- Player condition and fatigue impact
This is one of the most important parts of the current prototype, so feedback on match flow, readability, balance and tactical impact is especially useful.
What this version is
v0.4 is a playable prototype focused on the foundation of the game.
It is mainly about testing:
- The core match simulation and the new 2D match view
- The club finance system
- The tactics system
- The training system
- Player development and the youth academy
- The squad lifecycle — retirements and season-to-season aging
- The day-by-day career calendar and the club Inbox
- Basic squad management
- The early career flow
- The user interface and onboarding
If you enjoy early prototypes and want to help shape a football management sim from the ground up, this version is for you.
What this version is not yet
FK Manager is still early in development.
The game does not yet include:
- Transfer market
- Player contracts
- Scouting and youth-intake choices
- Youth leagues and youth matches
- Club infrastructure and facilities
- Staff and backroom team
- Morale and board expectations
- Manager career across multiple clubs
- Attendance, TV deals and deeper financial rules
- Deep world simulation
- Real clubs, real players or licensed data
These systems are planned, but I want to build and test the game step by step instead of adding everything at once.
Roadmap
The roadmap may change based on player feedback, but the current plan is:
- v0.5 — Transfers
- v0.6 — Club infrastructure
- v0.7 — Staff and backroom team
- v0.8 — Manager career
- v0.9+ — World simulation improvements + additional features
The goal is to move gradually from a match/training prototype into a deeper long-term football management career.
What kind of feedback helps most
If you try the game, I would love to hear what you think.
The most useful feedback right now:
- Did you understand what to do after starting the game?
- Does the 2D match view help you follow the game, or do you still rely on the commentary?
- Did your lineup and tactical choices feel like they mattered?
- Are the club finances interesting, or just admin?
- Did moving through the season day by day feel better than jumping fixture to fixture?
- Was the training system clear enough?
- Did player development feel understandable?
- At what point did you feel confused, bored or interested?
- What feature would make you want to play another season?
You can leave feedback in the comments here on itch.io.
Why browser first?
FK Manager is currently browser-based because it makes early testing easier.
The browser version lets players try the game quickly without installing anything, while I keep iterating on the core systems.
A standalone executable version is planned later in development, with Steam distribution as a long-term goal once the game has a deeper and more stable management loop.
AI disclosure
There is no AI-generated art inside the game itself.
The current cover image is AI-assisted / AI-generated. AI coding agents are also used as development assistance during programming.
Core design direction, gameplay systems, implementation decisions, balancing and release planning are handled by the developer.
Follow development
Follow this itch.io page if you want to receive updates and devlogs as new versions are released.
FK Manager is still early, but the goal is to build it openly, step by step, with feedback from players who enjoy old-school football management sims.
